1 arrested for alleged smuggling of wildlife animal parts

India:The forest department on Monday arrested one person involved in alleged smuggling and poaching of wildlife animals.

The department has seized wildlife articles of four monitor lizards, one porcupine quill, two owlet nails and a sea fan.

The teams had earlier arrested two persons in this connection and were looking for a third one in this case. “Based on specific information on smuggling we have nabbed the accused identified as Suresh Maheshwari near Choti Chaupar. A case under appropriate sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 has also been lodged against him. He would be interrogated to find out if he has the haul of other similar parts,” said a senior officer of the forest department.
