2 arrested with leopard skin

India: Police on Saturday arrested two suspected poachers and seized a leopard skin.

Officials said that the Kalsi police team, which was carrying out search operations on the outskirts of Dehradun, spotted two people in a car near Tunia Tiraha. When policemen asked the driver to stop, he tried to flee. The police team then chased and intercepted the vehicle.

The accused have been identified as Vivek Kumar and Khajan Singh, both residents of Kalsi area.

A case under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act and India Penal Code has been registered and investigation is on to ascertain how they got the leopard skin and where they were planning to sell it, the officials said.
