India: As many as 25 fishermen were arrested on charges of illegal fishing activities in the Gahirmatha Marine Sanctuary on Monday.
Three trawlers, which were used for the illegal fishing, were also seized.
According to sources, a patrolling team led by the assistant conservators of forests (ACF) Shrirampada Arabind Mishra conducted the raid at the marine sanctuary and arrested the 25 fishermen.
The case under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972 was registered and the arrested persons will be produced before a local court, sources added.
