India: The BSF, bordering Indo-Bangladesh border of south Bengal frontier, today seized over 100 kilos of tortoise bones, meant for smuggling across the border and north India, and arrested four people, three of them from Uttar Pradesh, from West Bengal's Malda district.
Acting on inputs the BSF troops in association with state forest department in two different joint operations seized five bags stacked with tortoise bones from a NBSTC bus at Malda. Each bag was contained around 12 kilos of tortoise bones and arrested three persons, identified as Shashi Kapoor (38),Kishan Kumar (45) and Arvind, All three were from Uttar Pradesh.
In a separate raid the BSF also seized over 41 kilos of tortoise bones and arrested Buddu Miya (53), a resident of Kaliachak, Malda.
The contraband was likely to be smuggled from India to Bangladesh through Sasani border area. The special search operation was carried out in the house of Budhu Miya at Chakmailpur village.
The apprehended persons and seized tortoise bones have been handed over to Custom Kaliachak (Malda) for further legal action.
