India: Police in Barwani district arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) district president Durgesh Rana for killing a monkey on Wednesday. The incident took place in the afternoon at Ramkuleshwar locality when Rana shot dead a monkey using his air gun. After the incident, large number people reached the spot and started protesting against Rana. Local police and forest department team also rushed to the spot and brought Rana to the police station.

Local residents said that a group of monkeys were resting on a wall in front from Rana’s residence on Wednesday noon. Rana, who appointed as TMC district president, took out his air gun and shot one of the monkeys. The simian died on the spot. Condemning the act, many villagers gathered in front of the accused’s residence and demanded his arrest.  Forest Ranger MS Mori said that a case has been registered under relevant sections of Wildlife Protection Act against Rana. “We are waiting for the autopsy report and based on that further action would be taken against Rana,” Mori added.
