One Arrested With Live Pangolin & Pangolin Scales

India:  In a joint operation executed by the Baikunthpur Forest Department’s Belakoba Range and the Wildlife Department’s Task Force, a smuggler was arrested with a live pangolin and a kilo of pangolin scales from Phansidewa Market, Siliguri.

According to Belakoba’s Ranger & the Task Force’s in-charge Sanjay Dutt, the operation was conducted in the area based on inputs from secret sources. 

The name of the accused has been stated as Sajjal Sarkar. He hails from the Chakda area of Nadia. The hunt for a man named Chandan Ghosh has also been initiated. Ghosh is said to run an NGO. 

It has been revealed that a gang of smugglers hunt these pangolins from Gangtok, Sikkim. The gang used to consume the meat before trading its skins and scales illegally.
