Poaching bid in Nameri National Park foiled; 1 poacher arrested, arms recovered

India: The forest personnel of Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve nabbed a poacher who tried to enter the park on Saturday evening.

The poacher has been identified as Deji Khaklari.

“As a poachers’ group tried to enter the Nameri National Park and Tiger Reserve, the alert forest team of the park, under the leadership of forest officers, Amrit Doley and Deep Kalita, was able to successfully foil the poaching attempt,” sources said.

The forest team arrested one of the poachers, Deji Khaklari and recovered two hand-made guns, one country-made boat along with house explosives from the possession of the poacher, sources said.

According to official sources of Nameri National Park, the poachers’ group tried to enter the park through river Jia- Bhorali on Saturday evening.

While the forest team followed the group, the other poachers jumped into the river and escaped, but Deji Khaklari landed in the forest team’s net.

The poacher was produced before the judicial magistrate in Sonitpur district.

“Search operation is going on to nab the other escapees. The arrested poacher is being interrogated by the forest officials,” sources added
