Poacher nabbed from forest, another escapes

India: A poacher was arrested for killing wild animals in the forests of Sathanuru in Kanakapura taluk in Ramanagar district on Tuesday. Sathanuru range forest officers arrested Shivappa (30), a resident of Makkalanda village, and seized carcasses of a Small Indian Civet and two Black Naped Hare.
Shivappa along with another person had entered the forests at around 1 am on Tuesday. They had parked their bikes at Kottaragumbi on the forest border and entered the forest with a home-made gun. They used torch-light to walk inside the forest, officials said.

While they had managed to kill the wild animals, the foresters, who were on night patrol, found the bikes near the forest and tracked them inside the forest. While the foresters managed to catch Shivappa, the other man managed to escape in the dark, they said.
The foresters, after filing a case under various sections of Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, produced the accused before the court which sent him to judicial custody. They are looking for the other person who had escaped.
