12 tigers die in 1 year; hunters, mishaps claim 6 of them

MUMBAI: The state government has admitted that 12 tigers died in the state between February last year to March this year, of which six were killed in hunting and road mishaps. All the deaths occurred at forest reserves in Vidarbha. Forest minister Patangrao Kadam said two tigers were illegally hunted by poachers in Buldhana and the other four died in different road mishaps. Kadam's written reply came during the state assembly's question hour. Kadam said it was not possible to put a fence along roads passing through forest areas as it would hinder tigers' movements.
