123 birds of prey seized in Spain

aguila The Civil Guard has seized 123 exotic animals victims of smuggling in Peñíscola, Spain. After an inspection, 20 birds were found dead inside a freezer and the other animals were seized for lack of legal documentation according to the CITES agreement and were sent to a recovery center for birds of prey. The animals rescued included harris eagles, royal owls, hawks, Nepal eagles, African owls and European lynx, among others. The owner of the birds, 67-year-old man, was arrested for smuggling protected species and for the falsification of documents and certificates. (Source : DAN)
