Bangladesh: Wildlife Crime Control Unit of the Bangladesh Forest Department seized more than 600 birds of different species from Zirabo area of Savar, on the outskirts of Dhaka, early today.
Tipped off, a WCCU team arrested one Lal Mia when he got down from a Dhaka-bound bus along with bird cages at Zirabo Bus Stand around 2:00am, WCCU sources said.
Later, a mobile court led by magistrate Sarwar Alam sentenced him to one year’s imprisonment for violating Wildlife (Conservation and Security) Act, 2012.

Lal Mia brought the birds that include Alexandrian Parakeet, Rose Ringed Parakeet, Hill Myna, Munia and sparrows from Bogra, the sources said.
The forest department released the birds at Curzon Hall later. Lal Miah and his associates used to supply birds to the bird sellers and pet shops in Dhaka.
Earlier, a mobile court jailed Lal Miah for one year after he was arrested from Tongi with 700 birds.
