DRI seizes 4.5 tonnes of red sanders at Mundra

India: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) recovered 4.5 metric tonnes (MT) of red sanders logs worth Rs 3.15 crore, from Mundra port. The logs were being illegally exported and had been concealed in bags of rice. Acting on a tip-off from a unit, the DRI raided at Mundra and found the red sanders, said an official of the agency. Red sandalwood cannot be ferried or sold without proper permission. According to the officials, the DRI has seized more than 354 MT of red sanders from various ports including Mundra, Kandla, Pipavav and container depots in Gujarat in the last five years.
