Representatives in El Salvador have banned the use of wild animals in circuses. With 54 votes in favour and 30 against, the Article 20 of the Wildlife Conservation Law was modified yesterday 9 August to protect wild animals from a life of abuse in captivity. The new law "prohibits the entry, use or abuse of wildlife in all kinds of shows; their transport through national territory shall abide to the international conventions on the matter. "It will only be permitted to display wildlife in zoos or animal shelters that provide the specific care that these species need for survival and all forms of abuse are prohibited." The law was also amended to limit wildlife trafficking in the country. (Source : DAN)
