Endangered monkey species increased over 50 percent

The population of the Chinese endangered monkey species called black snub-nosed has increased from 2,000 to more than 3,000 in the last 20 years. The snub-nosed monkeys live in China's Yunnan Province in southwest China and can also be found in Tibet. They are one of the world's most endangered primates, facing almost extinction in the 1980s due to the high demand for their fur and meat. Chinese scientists say the protection and conservation efforts are to thank for the increase in the population. 'The key to saving the monkeys and their forest home lies in raising awareness and helping hunters find other livelihoods,' said one scientist. (Source : DAN)
