India: In a new twist to tiger poaching cases being fought here, five out of the six doctors of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) & Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH), who earlier certified two tiger poachers as juvenile, have now changed their statement.
Mamru and Chika, the two poachers from Biruhali (Katni) in MP were dramatically arrested from Mansar near Ramtek on June 6, 2013. During interrogation, the accused confessed that 11 tiger skins were trafficked from in and around Nagpur by tiger skin trader Sarju Bagdi who is lodged in Nagpur Central Jail.
Mamru and Chika had filed an application under Section 7A of the Juvenile Justice Act through their counsel PS Sontakke on April 23, 2014 claiming that they were below 18 years when the offence was committed sometime in May 2013.
