Four held with rhino horn, three with leopard parts
KATHMANDU, June 24: A joint squad of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), Kathmandu and Makawanpur Police on Tuesday nabbed four persons red-handed with a rhino horn from a hotel in Manchowk-2 of Hetauda as they were sealing a deal with customers.
The arrested have been identified as Indra Bahadur Lama, 30 of Bara, Rajin Lama, 21, of Makawanpur, Kishor Bakharel, 27, of Dhading and Sitaram Lama, 17, of Makawanpur district
Police Inspector Bhola Bhatta of CIB, said, “Following a special tip-off, we were able to arrest them from a room of Lokpriya Hotel while they were bargaining for handsome price for the contraband.”
Though the arrestees have denied their involvement in smuggling of the illegal contraband, the police, too, suspect kingpin could be somebody else, according Inspector Bhatta.
The arrested have been handed over to the District Forest Office, Makawanpur, along with the rhino horn for further legal action.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police Circle Office, Swyambhu has arrested two men and a woman for possessing hides and other body parts of a leopard from a rented room at Baafal in Kathmandu.
The arrested are Tshering Jimba, Sarada Jimba and Bibash Ghalan.
They had allegedly killed the leopard and brought it to Kathmandu to sell its body parts, according the police.
Following a special tip-off, the police have raided the room of Tshering and seized the body parts hidden under the bed packed in a sack.
The arrested have been remanded to sevens day police custody for further investigation
