Leopard Rescued
BHUTAN : A forest rescue team yesterday freed a male leopard caught in a snare at Thongjabi in Umling gewog, Sarpang on October 18.
The snare was set by one of the villagers to guard his crop from wild animals.
Umling park ranger Dorji Wangchuk said that the range office was informed of the trapped leopard on Saturday at around 9am. “We reported the matter to the head office, which sent a rescue team the same day,” he said.
The rescue team from Thimphu and other forest officials went to the site, tranquilized the leopard and finally managed to release the trapped leopard around 3pm yesterday.
Officials said that they reached the site around noon and managed to rescue the leopard but the leopard took around three hours to fully regain consciousness.
The villager was not fined as the snare was set up within 50 metres of his paddy and millet field.
