India Kothrud police on Thursday arrested a 38-year-old man from Sutardara before he could sell a tiger skin.
Sandip Baban Shelke, a resident of Nepal Chawl, drives a tempo for a living. "Shelke claimed he found the skin and was just trying to sell it," said inspector Shankar Khatke. Shelke does not have a criminal record.
Acting on a tip-off, a patrol team caught Shelke when he was moving in a suspicious manner. A bag in his possession contained the skin and a sharp weapon. The police intimated the forest officials, who confirmed that the skin had belonged to a sub-adult tiger. "We suspect others may be involved," said sub-inspector A C Jogdand.
