Nepal: The Chitwan National Park (CNP) has arrested a rhino horn smuggler, who had been at large, and sent him to jail. CNP Spokesperson Tikaram Poudel today informed that Bijaya Lama Gole, a resident of Handikhola-4, Makawanpur, was nabbed and sent to jail for his involvement in smuggling rhino horn. CNP sources said that he faces three different charges. The recent case against him was lodged on July 1. The accused will face 14 years in jail and fine of Rs 50,000 for poaching rhino and smuggling horns. He will also face an additional 12-year jail term and a fine Rs 100,000 for another case of smuggling, stated a press release issued by CNP. A special investigation team had arrested Gole. According to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, trading of endangered species is a punishable offence by law. (Source : The Himalayan Times)
