Poacher on way to Delhi held with 600 parrots

India: A youth transporting 600 parrots stuffed in four iron cages kept on the roof of a Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) bus was nabbed near Patel crossing in the Civil Lines area on Saturday night by a joint team of Kotwali police and forest department officials. An FIR was lodged against him under the Wildlife Protection Act on Sunday.

Identified as Deepak, 20, a labourer from Barapather Nal Shekhan village under Kotwali police station in Pilibhit district, the poacher was on way from Pilibhit to Delhi. He had trapped the parrots in Pilibhit forest area and was going to sell them in Delhi.

Kotwali police station house officer Geetesh Kapil said, “On Saturday night, we received a tip-off about the accused’s presence in Civil Lines near Patel crossing. A four-member police team along with two foresters, Syed Qamar Ali and Vijay Singh, and one forest guard, Omkar Singh, reached the spot. The accused was sitting in the bus. We nabbed him and seized 600 parrots.”
