India: In a major catch, Darrang Police arrested a notorious poacher, arms smuggler and criminal mastermind who had managed to remain a step ahead of law enforcers for 15 long years. He has been identified as Roisuddin (60) and was finally run to ground at his hideout in Nagaland.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police Suman Chakraborty, the hardcore poacher was nabbed by a special operation team of Dalgaon police station from village Lapa of Tizit area under Namsha PS in Mon district of Nagaland with the help of local police.
Police, who have been on the lookout for this notorious criminal since last 15 years, got vital clues following the arrest of two poachers from Dalgaon area on Sunday night. Roisuddin, who originally hails from Nalbari village adjoining Orang National Park, has been living in Nagaland for the last 15-16 years, masterminding rhino poaching in several protected areas including Orang National Park, with the help of a section of local Naga people, the source added. In charge of Silbori police outpost, Sub-Inspector Premankur Hazarika and Sub-Inspector Mukut Ali of Dalgaon police station led the successful operation under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Sunil Kumar. The arrested poacher was brought to Dalgaon police station on Wednesday evening and his interrogation is continuing.
Darrang Police, in last three months, has managed to arrest as many as 17 poachers, seizing several firearms and live ammunition, including one stengun , one 9 mm pistol and three .303 rifle from the possession of poachers.
