Red panda census begins in Dhorpatan
BAGLUNG, JUL 03 -
The Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve, in association with a British organisation, has started a census of the red panda to ascertain the number of the critically endangered animal in all the seven blocks of the reserve.
“The census will be continued till mid-Mach, 2014. We will prepare the data and find the exact number soon after the census,” said Ranger Saroj Panthi, who expects the reserve to attract tourists to watch red panda after the count. Conservation officer Bishwo Babu Shrestha said the reserve could not count the red panda in the past due to the lack of required technology and budget.
He said as the team is carrying out the task on foot, the census would take months to complete.
