Red sandalwood seized in Kapilvastu

Kapilbastu, Nepal: The police have seized red sandalwood worth Rs 16 million and 300 thousand from Buddhabhumi Municipality-1, Pattharkot, in Kapilvastu on Sunday afternoon. Acting on a tip-off, a police team deployed under the command of Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganga Bahadur Thapa from the District Police Office, Kapilvastu, recovered the red sandalwood during a security check this afternoon.

The banned red sandalwood weighing 616 kg 970 grams was found hidden in the truck, Na 5 Kha 7382, coming to Kapilvastu from Arghakhanchi, and 36 kilograms 18 grams sandalwood was recovered from the trunk of a Balero pick-up van, Lu 2 Cha 1639, coming along with the truck. A total of 653 kilograms and150 grams of red sandalwood was recovered.

Police said that the arrested person and the recovered vehicle along with the sandalwood have been sent to Division Forest Office, Taulihawa, Kapilvastu for necessary action.
