India: Two rhino horn smugglers were arrested in a joint operation by police, CRPF and forest staff in the Sungajan area of Golaghat district on Friday. A rhino horn and a 9mm pistol were seized from them.

The duo, identified as Amit Modi and Mahesh Bhuyan, were taken into police custody and will be produced before a local court in Golaghat.

SDPO (Sarupathar) Anjan Pandit said, "Following the confessional statement of the arrested, we have launched a search operation in Sungajan to nab other smugglers."

Acting on a tip-off, security forces launched an operation in Sungajan in Golaghat district early on Friday. They caught the duo with arms and the rhino horn was found in their hideout. The smugglers purchase rhino horns from poachers and sell them in Dimapur which is a safe haven for rhino horn traders.
