Rifles, meat left behind by poachers seized

India: Unidentified people, who were poaching in the Palani forest range, left behind their rifles and a parcel of meat when they were chased away by a group of farmers on Thursday.
On being alerted, a police team rushed to the spot. Two unlicensed rifles and meat were seized by Palani rural police and a case was registered. The meat seized by the police was later disposed.

The incident took place in R Vadipatti village, located in the foothills of Palani-Coimbatore road on Thursday morning.

According to the police, a group of villagers from R Vadipatti village, who went to their farmland early in the morning for watering their crops, heard voices nearby.

When they reached the place from where the sound was coming, they found a gang of poachers. Alerted by the farmers’ presence, the poachers ran away from the spot leaving behind the rifles.

Investigations later revealed that they had poached deer. It also came to light that the gang had cooked a part of the meat and consumed it before leaving the forest area.
