Ruling on poachers bail plea deferred till Aug 7
NAGPUR: The judgement on bail application filed by three organized tiger poachers was deferred to August 7 by judicial magistrate first class (JMFC) R B Raja on Monday.
All the arguments on the bail application of Baheliya poachers Siri, Yarlen and Barsul have been completed and the matter has been kept for final order. When it came up for hearing at 3pm, the JMFC deferred it till Wednesday. Counsel for forest department Kartik Shukul and investigating officer (IO) H B Virsen were present.
As reported by TOI on Monday, the Amravati chief conservator of forests (CCF) in a release admitted that a joint team of wildlife and territorial officials from Melghat and Nagpur was on trail of tiger poachers near Jabalpur on Saturday and Sunday.
The CCF informed that acting on mobile tower locations about movement of tiger poachers near Jabalpur, the joint team had gone to Sihora, Manjoli, Pannagar, Bhajiya and other places where Baheliyas have set up camps.
With the help of Jabalpur forest officials and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) the local team raided some camps but failed to trace the poachers. When the team went to Bhajia, a villager told the officials he knew a tiger poacher named Nirafal. However, on quizzing Nirafal, foresters concluded he was not involved in any poaching case in the region.
The officials admitted that Baheliya poachers were smart and kept changing their locations frequently. Hence, no arrests were made and the team returned empty-handed on Sunday.
