India: The Puttur forest department special mobile squad have arrested 6 poachers, who killed a jumbo for ivory at an estate in Sakleshpura.
The arrested have been identified as Gangaprasad, 32; Unil Gaur, 19; Silass Barl, 31, Birkumar, 25; Babulal Singh, 38 and Sancharorng, 45. According to forest officials, all six hail from Assam and work as labourers in tea estate in Sakleshpura.
They were arrested based on information provided by three persons: Dinesh PK, 33, resident of Heravanadu, Madikeri and Kumara V, 37, resident of Nadahalli, Sakleshpura, who were arrested few days ago by forest officials while trying to sell pair of ivory obtained from killed elephant in Sakleshpura.
Forest officials said that they have continued the investigation and suspect that racket has spread across country.
