Three tusks seized

India: Forest Department officials have seized three tusks at Melur near Srirangam and arrested one person in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Forest Ranger, Tiruchi R. Ravikrishnan on Wednesday, on the direction of the District Forest Officer N. Satish, went to Chettiarthoppu in Melur where they seized tusks. It arrested K. Prabhu (26) of Neduntheru in Srirangam on the charge of concealing the tusks illegally and confiscated them. A hunt has been launched to track down Prabhu’s accomplice.

The tusks were bought by them from Krishnagiri for sale in grey market at huge sum. As talks for selling the tusks failed, they decided to keep it for the time being.

An investigation into the seizure has been launched to know the source from whom the tusks were bought. Call details of accused was being looked, said sources.
