Nepal: A police team deployed from the Regional Criminal Investigation Office, Seti on Thursday nabbed two persons with possession of a leopard hide from the Mohanyal Community Forest in Kanchibazaar of Lamki Chuha Municipality-2 of the district. A police team under the command of Inspector Siddhiraj Neupane apprehended Narendra Shahi of Kanchibazaar, Lamki Chuha-2 and Nahakul Neupane of Palati, Phukot-7, Kalikot with a piece of leopard hide yesterday. Police said that they have also impouned a two-wheeler (Se 2 Pa 8080) used by the smugglers. Police said that both of them along with the seized hide have been handed over the District Forest Office, Kalali for investigation. The National Parks and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1973 and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, 1975, have listed leopard as an endangered species and prohibited the trade of its hide and other body parts. Anyone found trading in the body parts of endangered species can face up to Rs 100,000 fine and 5-15 years jail sentence, as per the act. (Source : The Himalayan Times)
