Bangladesh: Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive arrested two poachers and recovered 36 deer skins from their possession at Kalmegha village in Pathorghata upazila of Barguna district on Tuesday night. The arrestees were identified as Shahin, 30, of the village, and Ujjal, 28, a resident of Pirojpur town.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of the law enforces took position at the village. Around 7:00pm, they intercepted a group of 8/10 poachers in Sonali Madrasa Road area. As the poachers started running, the Rab men chased them and caught the two with 36 skins wrapped in sacks, said Asaduzzaman, ASP of Rab-8. The other members of the group, however, managed to escape arrest.
The arrestees and the seized skins were handed over to Pathorghata Police Station yesterday afternoon. A case was lodged with the police station. The gang was carrying the deer skins to sell them in the capital, added the ASP. Earlier on January 28, Rab members seized three deer skins from Ghyanpara village of the same upazila. Away in Bagerhat, police arrested a poacher along with a deer skin in Sharankhola upazila early yesterday, reports our correspondent.
Based on secret information, police arrested Shahbaz Khan, 48, son of Abdul Mazid, along with a deer skin from his house at Chhoilabunia village, Md Rezaul Karim, officer in-charge of Sharankhola Police Station.
